Atlas binding
A weaving technique that requires a very complicated weaving loom. Atlas is similar to the denim described before. However, the thread floating goes over a minimum of 4 warp threads and most importantly: stitchers must not be touched.
Even here we make a difference between warp or weft Atlas. However, a constant Atlas is not possible. Atlas fabrics are smooth and pliant, the result of a low number of stitchers. The product has in total a softer, smoother feeling. The yarn's sheen is seen immediately and one achieves a noble visual appearance.
Terms:
- Duchesse: Natural or chemical „satin“ / large warp density, heavy finish
- Satin: Atlas is either (see above) warp or weft Atlas. The warp atlas is mostly just known as Atlas, weft atlas as Satin.
