Guipure embroidery possesses a typical plastic image. The stitching area is stitched with embroidery threads that form a continuous motif. Afterwards, the stitching areas are removed. This happened either through the etching away of the material's back between the motifs or through heat treatment. A Swiss embroidery company developed an inter-lace process, whereby the material, treated in an environment friendly way, is washed out with shine polyester yarn after being stitched. Only the embroidery remains. Etched laces are one of the most expensive lace materials. The manufacture is very time and cost consuming.
