FABRIC

One requires a two-thread system for the manufacture of fabrics:
Length threads = Warp
Transverse threads = Weft

The warp and weft threads and bound together at a right angle - crossed.
This type of crossing determines the product appearance - known as binding!   Through the corresponding yarn, color or through particular finishing processes, one can determine or change the visual appearance and the usage properties of the fabric - but the binding is primarily decisive.
